Yo-Yo Ma, a super interesting tidbit

Did you know that Cellist Yo-Yo Ma forgot his 266-year-old, $2.5 million cello in a New York taxi??

He later retrived it but still...

* This post is compliments of my Fundamentals of Psychology textbook. You are very fortunate.

Ma plays on 2 cellos. It was his Montagnana cello made in 1733 that was stolen, not his 1712 Davidoff Strad, which he uses for Baroque music. The Montagnana is worth at least $2.5 million and was formerly owned by Jacqueline du Pré. Said Ma, "Always keep your taxi receipt".

Another bit of lost instrument trivia: violinist Joshua Bell plays on the "Gibson" Strad, named for violinist Alfred Gibson. That instrument was stolen twice from violinist Bronislaw Hubermann, the second time during a Carnegie Hall recital while he was performing on stage using his Guarnieri. After 51 years, Julian Altman confessed on his death bed that he had purchased the violin for $100 from a friend shortly after its theft, and had used it during his freelance career playing at parties and in restaurants. Bell payed $4 million for the fiddle.
